The regular production version of the 1986 Porsche 959 is called the 959 Komfort. Porsche also offered a lighter “Sport” variant, but most cars built were Komfort models, intended to combine extreme performance with everyday usability, along with a high level of comfort and advanced engineering.
At the time, the 959 Komfort stood out as one of the most sophisticated road cars ever built, introducing technology that would only become widespread many years later.
Compared to the stripped-back Sport version, the Komfort model came fully equipped:
Although commonly labelled as a 1986 model, most 959 Komfort cars were actually delivered between 1987 and 1988. Vehicles from 1986 were largely pre-production units used for development, testing, and media purposes. As a result, cars officially dated to 1986 are especially scarce and often valued higher due to their early build status.
Today, a 959 Komfort typically sells for between $1.8 million and $2.5 million. Exceptionally well-preserved examples with very low mileage can reach close to $3 million at major auctions.
